Happy Birthday Gina
The promise was to make a cake that wasn't too girly. A promise to design a cake that was a little less ball gown and a little more tuxedo; something befitting a sophisticated young adult entering her last teen year. I think we did it with this little number we agreed to call "black rain". It's carrot cake filled with cream cheese buttercream, a band of textured fondant does for the sides and the top is more cream cheese buttercream with a hint of white chocolate and gumpaste fantasy flowers. The whole is accented with splashes of black and black candy pearls:

An Anniversary and a Reaffirmation
A little late posting these cakes. It was our anniversary and we celebrated by renewing our vows with the help of friends and family. Ed Turner performed the ceremonial part of the event (with great solemnity and gravitas as befits such an occassion-the bride was moved to tears, the groom kept whispering "don't cry"). The ceremony, which was conducted out of doors, ended just before the rain started and was followed by much eating, and a bit of drinking followed by (of course) cake. First was the groom's favorite: a carrot cake filled and frosted with cream cheese frosting and decorated with a fondant plaque:
Then, for those who prefer their cake without the vegetables a red and white cake filled with white chocolate buttercream, covered with fondant and decorated with gumpaste. The topper was provided by the groom as a surprise which made the bride tear up (of course):
